The Introduction to Countering the AI Revolution
A history, analysis, and a way forward
For those who have been following my work for the past year or so, you have seen me release one article after another as I attempt to record and analyze this moment in the human story, and help answer and draw forward some of the deeper questions that many are either asking or missing entirely. All of that work has been joined, updated, and expanded and published in book format under the title, Countering the AI Revolution. It is still somewhat difficult to describe just what this work is. It is listed under the categories of religious philosophy and also Christian social issues. It is that, but it is also a technical review, a historical review, a theological review, a metaphysical review, a telling of our times, a warning and a reminder.
I can think of no better way to introduce you to this work, than by sharing with you the introduction that begins it. And so you will find below my words taken directly from the book itself telling you of why I wrote this and what this work is attempting to be.

The Introduction

This book is fundamentally a work of helping you see the AI Revolution through the perspective of one who has had a front-row seat. Before most people knew this was coming, I was living it professionally. It is a review of the Revolution from a technical insider who has long used the technology now called AI, who understands the culture that has produced it, and one who prioritizes the universal truth of Christianity which supersedes it. It is an attempt to help you see what I see, and to understand the Revolution through its driving force: Transhumanism.
We often take our context for granted. The life we live forms the frame through which we see and understand the world. Having worked in Cyber Security for over 25 years, I have been entrenched in the world of data science and data analytics for decades. Indeed, that technological capability grew to meet the demands of people like me doing work similar to mine. Though I was using platforms that would be later called AI-native, my first awareness of the common use of the term AI in the data analytics world came sometime around 2018, maybe before. The exact date is something I’ve long forgotten because at the time it was just a new label for work I had already been practicing for well over a decade. Those of us in the industry who were well accustomed to new buzzwords and hype, just shrugged it off. In fact, my first encounter with Palantir, a company now considered at the forefront of the AI Revolution, was somewhere around 2013, and I considered them simply an organization that had built services to deliver what we had been doing for over a decade in Cyber Security.
When the term became front and center in the news and people all over were asking the question, “where did AI come from and why is it suddenly everywhere,” I was wondering, “why are they telling us to use it this way and why are they suddenly calling this AI?” In 2024 while working as an Engineering manager at a leading Cyber Security company, I didn’t give much serious thought to the implication of the mandate we received, which declared that we needed to use agentic AI in all that we did. We were already using this so-called AI as expert users, but not in the agentic form which seeks to replace people through automation. But as I write later in this book, I became very suspicious of the new use of AI as a generalized platform for workflow automation. And then came the sudden email from HR that said thanks to agentic AI, my role along with 499 others, had been eliminated in one of the early industry-wide waves of AI layoffs. This strange obsession and seeming misuse of a technology I had long used suddenly became a very real problem for me personally.
Free from the daily grind of Cyber Security in corporate America, starting in the summer of 2025 I took the opportunity to form a business called Practive Security. By it, I set myself to the work of pursuing the AI Revolution that was unfolding; to dig deep, explore, and come back with information to help answer common questions and highlight concerns. For right from the start, having worked with this technology for decades, I knew this entire endeavor was rooted in deception. The lords of tech, as I often call them, were up to something, and it made no sense from the technical level. I assumed that either I had completely missed the plot and misunderstood the technology, or there was something else going on entirely. I started my work by trying to understand better exactly what “AI” meant.
Being a practitioner in data analytics and data science for decades through my work in Cyber Security has given me a technical foundation by which to understand that and evaluate this Revolution, while my decades of experience working in Silicon Valley has afforded me insights to understand the culture which has spawned this movement in history. As a Christian, I also seek to understand the world through universal history first and most importantly as defined in the Bible, but also as explained through the writings and insights of Christian thinkers and theologians throughout time.
It is from that worldview and my past professional experience that I review how this technology is being used, who is calling us to use it, and how that fits into the greater hierarchy of truth by which we have our being and by which we all live. It is also through that lens of comparison that I examine the trajectory that brought us here historically, and where it seems to be taking us in the future.
In short, this book is an attempt to capture the story of the AI Revolution as it has played out so far through technical, philosophical, political, and theological perspectives born from my research and my experiences. While the Revolution continues to transform the human story live around us, there is much we can learn already and I believe there is an opportunity to stave off danger and steer our momentum toward a good outcome. If not, then perhaps with what I share we can take a moment to protect what we have so that we can seed a future which will most certainly need it.
This book is also personal, as I hope that when we collectively understand the truth, we may avoid causing more people the harm done to me and my family.
Practically speaking, this book draws from a collection of well over a dozen articles and research papers I have written for Practive Security throughout this journey of research and the pursuit of understanding. While my analysis is told in this book in a sequential manner, you will find a brief retelling of essential information in each chapter so the reader can advance to sections of interest. Being largely a technical and philosophical work, you may be coming to this from different perspectives and may benefit the most from certain chapters while others you may not necessarily need to review in full. Due to its complex nature, before we can review the deeper aspects of this subject, I offer a brief synopsis of the AI Revolution to orient the reader accordingly. The final section and its chapters are focused on what I believe our response should be to this Revolution; namely to preserve the arc of the human story, to double down on the human story, to pursue transcendence in Christ rather than through ourselves, and to be everything that the machines created to replace us, can never be.
If you would like to truly understand the times we’re living in and prefer perhaps a more authoritative and entertaining telling, please read the following works by C.S. Lewis. Mr. Lewis saw this moment with absolute clarity and has warned us already: Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, That Hideous Strength, The Abolition of Man, The Silver Chair, The Last Battle, ‘Til We Have Faces. In addition to these, I offer the Lord of the Rings books by J.R.R. Tolkien as the epic of our times by which we can understand our present moment. Mr. Lewis and Mr. Tolkien clearly saw the dangers ahead for scientific modern-man, and they warned us that we would reach this very moment. Reading their work in light of today gives the reader the impression that these men were prophetic.
The thesis I will present to you is this: the AI Revolution we are currently experiencing is essentially the re-purposing of technology and using it as leverage to force a redefinition of the world under the ideology (religion) of transhumanism. This is not about technology; it is about escaping the fallen state of humanity via tools we can create so we can achieve a higher plane of existence. This AI Revolution is about ending humanity in our current state so that a new successor can be formed to replace him. Though we may be tempted to think this so, AI is not simply just a new tool. It is a collection of tools joined intentionally to facilitate an outcome we otherwise seek through Christ.
Just as C.S. Lewis wrote of in his book The Last Battle, I believe that AI is like the abandoned lion skin that the Ape finds to perpetrate a great deception, and just as happens in the book, I am concerned that a deeper darkness will emerge and take over. I also see what is happening today precisely as Lewis wrote of in his work That Hideous Strength. We are elevating a “head” separate from the heart and soul of a man, so we can use it to channel intelligences that will guide us to enlightenment.
I offer that Christians need to understand this and prepare to endure through a difficult time while the world around us races to build a new Tower of Babel which is designed to fall. I hope that we will attend to the important work of preserving the essence of our culture and faith so we can seed it, if a new world forms that is receptive to it.
I am leveraging my 25 years of professional experience in technology, specifically cyber security, to present an understanding of the AI Revolution to my fellow Christians. This book serves to explain what the technology is and what it isn’t, as a warning about the dark origins of the ideology being pushed through this Revolution, and as a call to return to our foundations and seed a better future based on the truth of the Gospel. This book seeks to counter the transhumanist lies embedded within the AI Revolution by exposing their false path to transcendence and reminding us of the true transcendence found only through Christ.
To do this, I attempt to answer these questions: What is AI? Is it truly AI? What is this Revolution? Where did it come from? Who is behind it? Where is it leading us? Should we participate? What should we do instead?
My work attempts to tell the current story of the AI Revolution through a technical, philosophical, and theological reflection. As a Christian man who has worked with this technology for decades, I see in the current so-called AI Revolution a deeply deceptive movement that seeks to build for humanity a god that will make us each a god. I see playing out before us much of what C.S. Lewis warned of in his series of books known as the Space Trilogy. Perhaps because of my technical and faith background, I see truth through the deep deception of the transhumanists leading this revolution and their deep dark influences and the symbolism of bringing all work and activity of humanity under the authority and orchestration of their master achievement; a technology that they claim will provide for us transcendence beyond our current condition. I have written this because I see so many people falling for the deception and trying to navigate a new world that is being created before us.
Through this work, I review the current moment as a true revolution and the transformation that is happening as we speak. I attempt to explain what motivates the world of the technologists, as well as the inspiration and darkness they draw from. I provide a technical but not overly complicated explanation of how the technology works, and how it came to be, so that people today can keep it in its proper context and understand that this revolution is calling for us to misuse this tool unto our harm. I review the issue of human agency and that transferring our individual sovereignty to agentic AI is a fundamental submission of our spirit and our calling. I also provide an ethical framework for the potential right and good use of technology, including AI, as a tool within our framework of history, tradition, and faith. I call to attention the many ways this technology is being used to force a transformation that undermines our political and cultural foundations. I also provide direct appeals to the church by contrasting the Revolution’s promise of transcendence with the truth of the Gospel.
Throughout all of this, I invoke the wisdom of C.S. Lewis as well as modern Christian voices of clarity including Rod Dreher, Iain McGilchrist, Jonathan Pageau, and I contrast them with the words spoken by AI Revolutionaries including Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Sam Altman, and Dario Amodei.
My heart is to reach my fellow Christians with clarity and to help them understand the technology for what it is, to see the deception by which they are being lured to participate, to see that the path of this revolution leads to our demise, and to restore our attention to Christ and the way of life that He calls us to. For the AI Revolutionaries have taken a technology and have repurposed it in service to their ideology which is nothing less than that which C.S. Lewis warned us of in his Ransom series, and in a revolution that promises transcendence to achieve what Christ promises but through technology rather than through Him.
